Today's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D
A - Earth & Space Science 11 - Today we start with a quick review of yesterday's Geologic Journey video on the Rockies. I'll go over questions 13 & 15 on the video worksheet with you (sketching the photocopied pictures of mountain structures). For the rest of the class I need you to work through the "For Review" questions 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 & 13 from page 214 in your Earth Science and the Environment textbook. Check out the Brain Pop video on Mountain types here. For animations on types of faults click here. For animations on folds, anticlines, and synclines click here. For explanations and animations on deformation of rocks and geologic structures click here.
B - Social Studies 10 - Today we are going to the library to continue our work on the First Nations Peoples of Western Canada collaborative poster assignment. Your textbook is the main source of data on this assignment but yesterday I told you to take a look at the Canada First Nations: Native Civilizations webpage from the University of Calgary for help. Don't get lost in web page searches for information...the Challenge of the West text clearly lays out the required information at the beginning of Chapter 3 (pages 60-73).
C - Criminology 12 - Today we'll start with your first quiz in the course. Relax...you'll do fine. We'll mark the first two sections together and then we move on to crime victims and victimology (the study of victims of crime). We'll look at the Holly Jones murder case in Toronto (2003) and try to find out what impact that would have on her family, her classmates at school, her neighbourhood, and really the entire greater Toronto metropolitan area. Your work for the class will be to read through the next section in Chapter 3 on "Theories of Victimization" (dealing with Victim Precipitation, Lifestyle, and Routine Activities) - pages 61-64 and explain and compare the three theories (as a silo chart) along with answering questions 2 & 3 on page 72 in the Criminology: The Core text.
