Today's schedule is B-A-Lunch-D-C
B - Social Studies 10 - Today your second set of Atlas mapping activities are due (Part 3: Map Convention #3-Direction; Part 4: Map Convention#4-Scale and Distance; Part 5: Map Convention#5-Location; and Part 6: Try out your Map Reading Skills all on pages 8-12). I've been able to secure the library for today so that you may have an extra class to work on the physio-geographic regions of Canada project. Do not forget that this assignment is due this Friday and it is your first major assignment of the year in Social Studies 10. If you have any questions on this assignment you should ask me very quickly as there are four days left after today to complete this assignment. Tomorrow and Wednesday we are going to look at the regions together as a class and Thursday we will watch "Over Canada" to see what the landscape looks like. Friday we have a unit final but more on that tomorrow.
A - Earth & Space Science 11 - We are back in the library today, working on our mining poster. Remember that you need to gather information about one specific substance mined in Canada and there are many minerals, ores, gems, metals, and fossil fuels that you may choose from. The assignment is in the shared directory (K:\Mr. A. Young\Earth & Space Science 11) on the computers at school and is due on February 26th (that's this Friday - four days from now). Also don't forget that our first quiz will be this Friday (February 26th) and it will cover the first two chapters of work that we have been addressing in class (Earth Science basics - Chapter 1 - and Minerals - Chapter 2). Tomorrow we'll examine mining and geologic resources in class.
C - Criminology 12 - Today your journal / blog entry is to finish up and post your response to Friday's question:
What are the short and long term impacts on victims of Crime? Use Harper in the Law & Order episode you watched today and Chapter 3 pages 54-7 in Criminology: The Core textbook to help.
Next, I'd like you to find an article (news story) about a victim of crime and for that you should outline the impacts of the crime on them. Finally, using the two stories (one fictional and one real) explain what we should do to mitigate (soften the impact) the impacts of crime on victims (be realistic). Don't forget to post your letter to the editor of the Vancouver Sun outlining the current trends in crime and crime patterns.
