Today's schedule is D-C-B-A

D Block Social Studies 11 - Today I'll give you my 1920's -1930's quiz along with my WW1 quiz. You can work on these with a partner and we'll see how you would have done if I had given you these quizzes last month. After that I'll start your review for Monday's World War Two quiz...we'll finish it along with our look at the end of the war tomorrow.

C Block Crime, Media & Society 12 - Today our focus is on social stratification, inequality and deviance...this all leads us to the sociological explanations of criminal behaviour next week. We'll watch this satire of social class and stratification in North American society. Be warned: this is satire - a la South Park. There are some potty mouth words and REALLY negative social values in the video. I want you to critically evaluate what messages about class, gender, race, religion, fame, competition, inequality, deviance and socialization the video demonstrates.

So...let's talk about the video!

From the "Introduction to Sociology" website created by Dr. Stephen J. Sills (UNCG Sociology 101) Social stratification is defined as the unequal distribution of resources in society. Every society has some form of stratification. The Class System is a stratification system based on achieved status. Although there are structures in place that keep people from moving out of their social class, this system of stratification is less rigid and allows people to achieve a higher status within their lifetimes. Class systems of stratification are typically found in modern, industrial societies. So...what do you perceive your social status as? Check out the New York Times special supplement Class Matters
For the rest of the class you can work on your clique assignment or your social influences assignment.

B Block Geography 12 -  Today we'll look at atmospheric moisture, humidity, and the four atmospheric mechanisms that cool a parcel of air to its dew point & cause precipitation (orographic, convectional, frontal, and radiative cooling). You will complete questions 9 from page 211 and 21 & 23 from page 212 of your Geosystems textbook. While you are working on the questions I'll have the BBC DVD The Weather on for us to watch the WET episode. The Weather is a major BBC documentary exploring the extremes of the world's climate with the engaging presenter Donal MacIntyre and in WET we ride with the rain from the wettest place in Europe to the wettest place in the world, with a stop under the parched Texan skies, where farmers hope to harness the power of nature to create rain. From the first drop of a monsoon to the floods that kill millions each year, water brings life and death in equal measure

A Block Law 12 - Today we'll end our look at Criminal Law. I'll need you to finish Tuesday's work on empanneling juries and trial proceedures and yesterday's work on sentencing and punishment. I'll give you the quiz that I would've given you as a class at the midway point of criminal law unit and we'll go through it together to see how you would've done. After, I'll give you a quick review for your criminal law unit final quiz that you have upcoming this Monday.
