Today's schedule is B-A-D-C

Happy Birthday Cookie Monster!

You can learn a great deal from Cookie Monster; he is the four year old in us all who is the epitome of instant gratification. But Cookie Monster can teach us about questions and patience...like in the video below

B Block Geography 12 - Today we will quickly review rivers and streams (floodplains) and after we will discuss floods and watch portion of a video on the Red River flood of 1997 ("Flood of the Millennium") as well as the Raging Planet video on floods. Then, you'll need to work on the Red River flood study in your week 9 package.

Some web pages to help with the causes of floods and flood protection measure are:
Public Safety Canada: Floods
Environment Canada: Floods
City of Winnipeg: Floods
Atlas of Canada: Floods
How Stuff Works: Floods
USGS: Floods
Clips from the Raging Planet Flood video can be seen here

A Block Law 12 - Today with Ms. Curry...we'll talk about Property Crimes, and then the rest of the class will be used for finishing up the crime assignments or watching an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

D Block Social Studies 11 - Today with Ms. Curry...we'll watch an episode of "Boom and Bust," which will show the booms of the 20s and the beginning of the Depression. Afterwards, I'll give you a worksheet to complete after you look at these Stock Market Crash questions:

What is the significance of Tuesday, October 29, 1929?
Why do you think this happened?

Please define these terms: Red Scare (Communism), Autonomy, Depression, Branch Plants, Slums, Urbanization, Group of Seven
Here is a sheet with some important economic vocabulary.

C Block Criminology 12 - Wednesday we got caught up in the talk about public order crimes. Immoral acts are distinguished from crimes on the basis of the social harm they cause. Acts that are believed to be extremely harmful to the general public are usually outlawed, whereas acts that only the harm the actor themselves are more likely to be tolerated. Acts that are illegal because they are viewed as a threat to morality are called public order crimes. Today I'll have you work on three questions:
  1. Should drugs be legalized? Why? If you believe drugs should be legalized, think about whether all drugs should be legalized or just a select few. Why should certain drugs be legalized and others not?
  2. Should prostitution be legalized? Why? If you believe it should be legalized, should all the forms of prostitution described in your text be legalized, or only a select few? If prostitution were legalized should government be able to exercise some control over it?
  3. Does pornography lead to violence? Why? Is it harmful? Why Consider all forms of pornography (what is currently legal and illegal) when you answer this question.
I gave you question #2 to work on Wednesday so you can have some time today to polish it up. You'll need to use the textbook to help you here so feel free to use the ones I have set aside in the class for you.
