Today's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D

A - Law 12 - Today we will go over the elements necessary for a negligence case to move forward. We will understand: Duty of Care; Standard of care (including foreseeability and the reasonable person's test); Causation; and Actual Loss (real loss or injury). Included in this will be understanding the legal principle res ipsa loquitur (the facts speak for themselves). We'll go over the precedent setting Donoghue v. Stevenson (1932) case and then you'll have time to continue working on your case study project.

B- Earth and Space Science 11 - Today we'll take a look at seasons and the geographic factors that affect temperature on the surface of the planet. I'll have you work through a seasons lab, we'll watch the last half of the cold episode of the BBC "The Weather" DVD, and then you'll work on "For Review" questions 11 and 12 on page 445 of your Earth Science and the Environment textbook.

C - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today we will look at the physical and mental elements of a crime. We'll focus on the three types of criminal intent and understand the difference between Strict Liability and Indictable Offenses in Canada. We'll then try to understand who the four parties to an offense are as well as understand what the charges of attempt and conspiracy are. Tomorrow we'll be in the library to work for the whole class on our crime scene reconstruction - investigation case activity.

D - Geography 12 - Today we are going to look at hurricanes. I'll start by showing you Donal McIntyre try to stand up to both hurricane and tornado force winds in a wind tunnel. We'll look at the conditions necessary for hurricane development and then look at the Saffir-Simpson scale (wind speed, storm surge, and damage to structures). Your activity will be to track (plot out the path) of Hurricane Diana from 1984 and answer two questions (including question 18 from page 248 of your Geosystems text). Tomorrow we'll watch the "Inside Hurricane Katrina" DVD from National Geographic.
