A Block Social Studies 11 - Today we'll examine the horrors of trench warfare in World War One. We'll look at the advances in technology that caused the stalemate on the Western Front and the slaughter of millions of men. To begin we'll take a few notes down about the Schlieffen Plan and the Western Front. Next we'll look at what trenches were like and then we'll watch the Canada: A People's History episode "Go Out and Meet Death Bravely"
Lastly, you may finish questions 1 & 2 from page 24 along with questions 2, 3, and 4 from page 28 of the Counterpoints textbook.
B Block Geography 12 - Today we're looking at water. The USGS diagram below shows the distribution of
water on the planet and explains the amount of water available for "human use".
You'll note that there is precious little water available for 6.7 billion
people. Then consider that the flora and fauna of the biosphere require water as
well and you can see the importance of water to all forms of life on the
planet.Today we'll look at the properties of water in its three phases and then you'll need to sketch a diagram of the hydrologic cycle (page 253 in Geosystems). Next you'll need to define: condensation, evaporation, transpiration, precipitation, sublimation, percolation, aquifer, zone of aeration, and zone of saturation. Lastly you'll need to complete questions 2 & 5 from page 210, 1 from page 278, and 14, 16, & 18 from page 280 all in your Geosystems text. D Block Social Studies 10 - I have the library booked for you to continue our work on the Rebellions Editorial activity. Remember you need to determine whether the rebels were either justified in their actions or were traitors to the King and England. Remember it is 1840, one year before the Act of Union, but Durham's recommendations would be public knowledge in the colonies by now (responsible government, union of the Canadas, more equality of the churches, and more local control in governance). The editorial is due this Thursday. Good Luck
