Today's schedule is A-B-C-D
A Block Law 12 - Today with Ms. Curry..I showed you the outline of the crime assignment in the last class. Today, I'll give each one
of you a copy. We'll take a few notes
B Block Geography 12 - Today we're continuing our look at water by focusing on coastal
processes and landforms. We will look at how water erodes, shapes, and
creates coastal landscapes by focusing on long shore current &
drift. We'll analyze the differences between an erosional and
depositional coastline and try to make sense of the hazards of living
along depositional coastlines (think Cape Hatteras, North Carolina). For
additional information and help on questions 8, 11, 13, & 14 in
your Geosystems text go to:
Cerritos College Earth Science Coast Landforms
University of Regina Geomorphology Class notes
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Geomorphology from space site
USGS Coastal & Marine Geology program
NOAA: Pressures on Coastal Environments
There's a great article on the dangers of people moving to coastlines at EARTH magazine here.
There's a great web page on the Graveyard of the Atlantic: Sable Island Nova Scotia. Check out more on Sable Island here.
You can also find some very good before-after photos of the destruction caused to coastal landforms and human infrastructure by Hurricane Sandy at the CBC here or the Weather Channel here.
C Block Criminology 12 - OK so this is it. These are the last two days to get your seminar topic prepared
and ready to go for Wednesday and Thursday this week. Now let's talk about
stress. Some of you are not too fond of public speaking and find it an
unpleasant experience. It doesn't have to be. You have five minutes (or more if
you need it) to present information on a criminology topic to the class. The
information is about something you are interested in and why you are interested
in it. Some of you have indicated that you're panicking about speaking in front
of the class which is both natural and actually kind of funny (given that you
all have done this already just not in a structured format). So look through the
following websites to help you plan for your talk:
CAASAA
Public Speaking Skills
How to Conquer Public
Speaking Fear
Toastmasters
Tips & Techniques
Overcoming the Fear of
Speaking to Groups
Overcoming
the Fear of Public Speaking
The
Art of Speechmaking
We start Tuesday with our presentations for the remainder of the week.
D Block Social Studies 11 - Today with Ms. Curry..If the technical forces are with us, we'll continue watching Cinderella Man. If
we have no such luck, we'll take some notes and read about the Canadian
government's response to the Depression.
