C Block Criminology 12 - Today we'll focus our efforts at the beginning of class on auto theft. We'll examine the five types of motor vehicle theft and identify how you can protect your vehicle from being stolen (target hardening strategies). This will help you with your blog entry from yesterday. After that we'll look at burglary & Break and Enter. I'll give you a few notes and then you'll need to answer the following: What characteristics must a good burglar have? (Look at Neil Shover's explanation on page 264) and What are the differences between male and female burglars?
D Block Social Studies 11 - Today with Ms. Curry you'll be in the library in your expert groups, working on this assignment.
A Block Law 12 - Today with Ms. Curry you'll be discussing cyberbullying and how it fits into the Criminal Code. I will be giving you hypothetical scenarios that you will rate, and then we will talk about real-life cases, such as the current one of Amanda Todd.
Some questions to consider:
- how would you feel if the government and/or authorities read through your Facebook pages, your private emails... anything online?
- How does cyberbullying differ from offline bullying?
- How should rights to freedom of expression be balanced against rights to security of a person?
B Block Geography 12 - Thank you for your effort on your test yesterday. Remember I pushed the due date for the Orting project to yesterday's class at the latest...if you have it done please hand it in to me. Today we are watching one of the worst disaster movies of all time...Dante's Peak (oh Bond...James Bond I mean Dalton...Harry Dalton of the USGS Cascade Volcano Observatory you dedicated vulcanologist yet tortured soul).
You will have a series of questions to answer about the volcanology in the movie. Believe it or not there are actually some good things about the movie. I'm a big fan of the lahars and the pyroclastic flow is a fairly decent recreation. What I really want is a truck that can drive over top and through a lava flow like the US Forest Service truck in the movie...That would be sweet! Seriously though there are too many errors in science to count but you'll need to try to identify a few. We'll finish the movie tomorrow.
