Today's schedule is D-C-Lunch-A-B

D - Law 12 - Today we will start watching the John Travolta movie "A Civil Action" based on a book by Jonathan Harr. From Yahoo Movies:

Jan Schlichtmann, a lawyer with a desire to achieve financial and material success without losing his belief in the justice system, agrees to take on two powerful corporations (Beatrice Foods and W.R. Grace) when members of eight families in the Boston industrial suburb of Woburn are stricken with leukemia due to toxic poisoning in their tap water...For a much better review of the book see a review from 1995 here.

The real life case at the heart of the book and film is Anne Anderson, et al., v. Cryovac, Inc., et al.. (see Florida State University College of Law and Carleton University Law, and The Boston Phoenix). This movie is a very realistic view of a civil case and will help you better understand this section of law - think case study project. Speaking of the case study project, you should be aware that after today there are 8 classes remaining until our final exam days and 10 classes remaining until our major project is due....no pressure.

C - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today we finish our pre trial, trial, and sentencing work we've been focusing on over the last week. When we finish, we'll begin watching the Law & Order episode "Family Values" (Season 5 Episode 4). This episode is based on the Amy Fisher attempted murder of her lover's wife Mary Jo Buttafuoco. Check out the following websites to find out more about the case:

A - Social Studies 11 - Today we will finish our look at the radical transformation of Canadian society in the later half of the 20th Century. I'll go over the work from the last three days and we'll try to make sense of the dizzying pace of change that altered our "identity". The overarching question we'll try to answer is:

To what extent have Local, National, and Global forces shaped Canadian identity?

Monday sees us begin our look at the state of the world today - focusing on population, differing standards of living, economic development, environmental concerns and the conflict that arises from the combination of these factors.

B - Geography 12 - Today we are going to look at soil: specifically structure, properties, and formation (on Monday we'll focus on classification and seeing how soil classes are related to biomes and climates). We'll understand what a soil profile looks like and discover how colour, texture, and acidity differentiate soils. You'll need to complete questions 1 & 4 from page 620 and 8 & 11 from page 621 in your Geosystems textbook.
