Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Today is a shortened day due to Parent-Teacher Interviews; the schedule looks like this:

A 8:55-9:55
B 10:00-11:00
Lunch 11:00-11:50
C 11:55-12:55
D 1:00-2:00

A - Social Studies 11 - With Mr. Jones you will be looking at Japanese internment here in British Columbia during the second world war. This is an incredibly sorry incident in Canadian history and the culmination of decades of personal and institutionalized racism geared towards people of Asian descent. You'll watch a Canada: A People's History episode and will discuss the implications of this event in the broader context of Canadian history.

B - Geography 12 - Today you will be finishing the “Sunlight and the Seasons” (week 10 package Day 49 – solar energy and the reason for seasons). After you have finished this activity you need to complete questions 17, 19, and 20 from page 62 in your Geosystems textbook. On Friday we'll start with Albedo, energy distribution, the greenhouse effect and temperature (days 50 & 51 in the week 12 package) and then you'll watch the BBC DVD “The Weather” episode on heat (Grrrr, Donal MacIntyre is doing my job!).

C - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today we are going to spend time discussing what a psychopath is. We didn't really get to that yesterday so we'll look at the 20 item "test" for a psychopath and NO you shouldn't administer that test to your friends or family. On Friday we'll watch the A&E documentary on profiling the criminal mind (focusing on Wayne Williams in Atlanta and Robert Hanson in Alaska) and then I'll have you try to build a criminal profile of a computer hacker.

D - Law 12 - Today we will review the work we did yesterday on searches and warrants and then we will look at R. v. Wise (1992) and R. v. Ruiz (1991) as a class. It is important to look at the "plain view doctrine" and on Friday we'll finish up pretrial procedures.
