Thursday's schedule is B-A-Lunch-D-C.

B - Geography 12 - Today we're looking at water. The USGS diagram above shows the distribution of water on the planet and explains the amount of water available for "human use". You'll note that there is precious little water available for 6.7 billion people. Then consider that the flora and fauna of the biosphere require water as well and you can see the importance of water to all forms of life on the planet. Today we'll look at the properties of water in its three phases and then you'll need to sketch a diagram of the hydrologic cycle (page 253 in Geosystems). Next you'll need to define: condensation, evaporation, transpiration, precipitation, sublimation, percolation, aquifer, zone of aeration, and zone of saturation. Lastly you'll need to complete questions 2 & 5 from page 210, 1 from page 278, and 14, 16, & 18 from page 280 all in your Geosystems text. To help look at the United States Geological Survey Water Cycle website and ther University of Kentucky Geology Department flash animation site.

A - Social Studies 11 - You have your unit final test on World War One today. If you studied and came prepared, I'm sure that you will do well. We'll mark the first three sections together and then with the remaining time left in class you'll be able to work on the Paris Peace Conferences / Treaty of Versailles work from yesterday.

D - Law 12 -Today we will start with a brief discussion on obscenity and find out what the laws on it in Canada are and then we'll watch "Cherished", which is a Law & Order episode from season 9. The episode deals with some pretty heavy stuff (child abandonment and fraud) and to see a real life example check out the Pravda news article here. The real life case surrounds a couple who adopted a child from a Russian orphanage and a decision was handed down in the case a year ago. From the Salt Lake Tribune:

A Tooele Utah mother who admitted to killing a 14-month-old boy she and her husband adopted from Russia was sentenced Friday to prison for up to 15 years. Kimberly K. Emelyantsev, 34, who had pleaded guilty to second-degree felony child-abuse homicide in the death of Nicoli Emelyantsev, offered a tearful apology in 3rd District Court.
