Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Wednesday's schedule is D-C-Lunch-A-B.

D - Geography 12 - Today we're continuing our look at water by focusing on coastal processes and landforms. We will look at how water erodes, shapes, and creates coastal landscapes by focusing on long shore current & drift. We'll analyze the differences between an erosional and depositional coastline and try to make sense of the hazards of living along depositional coastlines (think Cape Hatteras, North Carolina). For additional information and help on questions 8, 11, 13, & 14 in your Geosystems text go to:
University of Kentucky Geology Department flash animation site
Cerritos College Earth Science Coast Landforms
University of Regina Geomorphology Class notes
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Geomorphology from space site
USGS Coastal & Marine Geology program

A - Law 12 -Today we'll continue working on criminal law defences. I'll review yesterday's work on insanity (C.C. section 2 & 16), automatism, and intoxication (C.C. section 33.1). Today we'll look at consent, entrapment, mistake of fact, and double jeopardy (Charter of Rights & Freedoms section 11(h) and C.C. section 12). You'll finish the questions from page 141 (8, 9, 10, & 11) and then we will use the remainder of the class to discuss the defence of "Battered Women's Syndrome" in R. v. Lavallee (1990). You'll combine questions 5 & 6 on the "At Issue" section (p. 145) and hand that in with your questions from page 141 today. A good resource for information about Canadian law is the Criminal Review website and look at the following for criminal law defences:
Find Law (even though it's American law it's a great page!)
National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers
Legal Services Society of BC
Toronto Criminal Defence Lawyer

B- Earth and Space Science 11 - Today we continue our work on mountain building. We'll watch the Geologic Journey episode on the Appalachian mountains and we'll have a worksheet to complete when watching the episode (like yesterday's Rockies video). After, you'll need to work through "For Review" questions 2, 3, 5, & 6 from page 214 in your Earth Science and the Environment textbook.
