Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Tuesday's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D.

A - Law 12
- Today we'll review the four criminal law defences we began with yesterday (alibi, self-defence, legal duty, and excusable conduct). Today we look at mental disorder, intoxication, and automatism. We'll watch a video on the Kenneth Parks homicidal somnambulism case (sleepwalking murder R. v. Parks, 1992). There is a great read on TruTV (used to be called Court TV) about the case. It is interesting to note that the same defence was attempted in Arizona in 1999....it failed. You can read about the case involving Scott Falater who stabbed his wife 44 times and claimed he was sleepwalking here. We'll watch the Exhibit A episode on the R. v. Parks (1992) case and then I'll ask you to complete questions 1-3 on page 129 and 5, 6, and 7 on page 141.

B- Earth and Space Science 11 - Today we'll review and wrap up volcanism by looking at the questions I asked you to complete yesterday. You'll need to hand in all of your work today so that I can get it back to you (so you can study for your unit final next week). Next we shift into mountain building (orogony) by looking at folded mountains today and we'll watch the first two segments of the CBC Geologic Journey episode on the Rockies. You'll need to work on the question handout on the Rockies video. Tomorrow we'll watch the Geologic Journey episode on the Appalachians.

D - Geography 12 - Today we will quickly review rivers and streams by watching Bill Nye the Science Guy (you can watch this episode at You Tube here). After we will discuss floods and watch a video on the Red River flood of 1997 ("Flood of the Millennium") and then you'll need to work on the Red River flood study in your week 8 package.
