C Block Geography 12 - Today is our LAST DAY in the library for our severe weather poster-project. Your project will need to be submitted to me in room 611 at school NO LATER than Fri day, June 5th. I will also remind you that you have a weather unit final this Thursday (June 4th, 2015) and if you have any questions you should ask me as soon as possible. For the test the topics include:
- the structure of the atmosphere (tropo & strato)
ozone depletion (CFC's), the enhanced greenhouse effect (GHG's) & air pollution (acid rain) - solar energy & insolation (heat, albedo, energy distribution, &
seasons)
atmospheric pressure & global wind patterns (coriolis force, wind pattern names, pressure zones) - low & high pressure systems (how they happen, winds & weather associated with them, including air masses)
- precipitation (lifting mechanisims - orographic, frontal, radiative, convectional - fronts and storms)
- weather maps (station plots / models and low pressure cyclonic storms - cold and warm fronts)
- severe weather (specifically hurricanes - how they develop & how they cause damage)
D Block Crime, Media and Society 12 - Today we start our look at Russel Williams. Canada hasn't seen a case that has drawn so much media attention since Robert William Pickton or Paul Bernardo. The case received coverage in Canada (both "Above Suspicion" and "The Confession" from The Fifth Estate on CBC and "Fall From Grace" shown on Global's 16 X 9) and in the United States as well ("Name, Rank & Serial Killer" on CBS 48 Hours, "Conduct Unbecoming" on NBC Dateline). Today we'll start by looking at the case in detail and then we'll watch "Above Suspicion" (see below).
There are lots of places to find information on the case but a good place to start is the accompanying website to the CBC documentary "Above Suspicion". By the way the documentary was originally aired on September 24th, 2010 which was three weeks before Russell Williams plead guilty to all charges in the matters against him.
B Block Social Studies 11 - Today we'll finish our quick look at demography and population. We'll watch a couple of short videos. After each video, I'd like you to tell me what you observe and I hope to have a discussion on the population information.

After the videos we'll then move into dependency ratio and China's One Child policy. We'll work through questions questions 2 & 3 on page 331 in the Counterpoints textbook. Tomorrow we'll look at population density, carrying capacity, and begin our look at living standards.
