Today's schedule is A-B-C-D. Today is also the first X-Block day of the year and the schedule looks like this:
9:05 – 10:10 Period 1 (65 min)
10:15 – 11:20 Period 2 (65 min)
11:20 – 12:05 Lunch
12:10 – 1:10 Period 3 (60 min)
1:15 – 2:15 Period 4 (60 min)
2:15 – 3:15 X block (60 min)

A Block Law 12 - Today with Ms. Curry, you'll talk about the "parties to offenses," and after we'll watch an episode from Law and Order - Episode 10, Season 9, "Hate." A group of young white supremacists are charged after a student was murdered. The DA wants to nail their ring leader, though, even though he does not act on his words.

B Block Geography 12 - Today we're back in the library to continue our research on the Orting high school case study. Should the town of Orting, Washington, build a new high school to attract people to their community or not? What will the impact of increased population be on the tiny town that sits in the shadows of Mt. Rainier? The assignment is in your week 5 package and was posted on this blogsite so check out yesterday's entry. Remember my note of caution...

What is the greatest danger to Orting? Of all that could potentially happen at Mount Rainier what poses the greatest threat? Now ask yourself what triggers that threat? What causes it to happen? Last think about the statistical likelyhood of that event happening. How likely is the event to occur in the next 5, 10, 100, or 1000 years? Check out the
risk analysis section of the COTF website for help here.

C Block Criminology 12 - So we talked about mass and serial murder this week and I mentioned the case of Jim Jones and the Jonestown massacre. Today we'll watch the Criminal Minds episode "Mimimal Loss" from season 4. In this episode, Reid and Prentiss, have gone undercover into an underground cult to investigate child abuse, and get trapped inside the compound when a federal raid on it goes bad. From tv.com...
A newscaster with a special news bulletin from KGMI, Channel 9, out of La Plata County, Colorado, reports they are still waiting to see what becomes of the women, children, and two FBI agents who are trapped within a Separatarian Sect at Liberty Ranch in a showdown with law enforcement. As the reporter speaks, a huge explosion can be seen engulfing the main ranch building in the background.
This case has very close parallels to the 1993 David Koresh Branch Davidian disaster at Waco Texas. After a 51 day standoff with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, David Koresh and 85 of his followers died in a firey confrontation. The episode also has allusions to the plural and arranged marriages of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) - formerly under the leadership of Warren Jeffs. For this episode of Criminal Minds I'll ask you to pay attention to the profiles of both the leader (Benjamin Cyrus) and his followers.

D Block Social Studies 11 - Today with Ms. Curry you'll wrap up your introduction to WWI unit (hopefully!). We'll talk about technology, residential schools and the suffragist movement. I gave you some time to read a book called My Name is Seepeetza to give you an idea of what residential schools were like for Aboriginal children. We watched a short episode from Canada: A People's History on the women's movement, and I handed out these questions for you that will be due on Wednesday.
