Day 4 - Monday, September 13. 2010

Hi everyone. Welcome to week two of the 2010-11 school year; I hope you had an enjoyable weekend. Today we have an advisory group schedule with AG taking place for fifteen minutes between first and second blocks. Otherwise the day operates pretty much as usual.

C - Law 12 - Today we will get our All About Law textbook and then continue our discussion on the divisions of Public (criminal, constitutional, and administrative) and Private law (tort, family, contract, property, and labour law). We'll take a brief look at the history of law (focusing on Hammurabi, the Mosaic code, and the Justinian code) and then move into reading case studies and citations. I'll have you work in partners on the R. v. Davis (1995) and Finnie v. Ropponen (1987) cases (both questions 1 through 6 on each). We'll finish the work tomorrow in class.

D - Geography 12 - Today we'll get back into your Week 1 package focusing on the foundations of Geography starting with the Five Themes. In order to understand the increasingly complex and interconnected world we live in we need to find a way to make sense of information in a way that doesn't overwhelm us. The Five Themes (Location, Place, Human-Environment Interactions, Movement, and Regions) are a framework for making sense of geographic data. Today, we'll review the first two themes and then cover Human-Environment Interactions and Movement. We'll get our Geosystems and Canadian Landscape textbooks then tomorrow we'll finish our look at the five themes and move on to systems and spheres.

A - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today we'll share your own theories of why crime happens. We'll see if there are any similarities amongst the different theories we made and try to understand just what that may mean. Next we'll look in the course text (handout) and discuss the biological AND sociological reasons for criminal behaviour. Tomorrow we'll look at victims and victimology.
