D - Geography 12 - OK Lets get this out of the way right now....No the movie the Core is not possible. We do not have the technology to burrow our way to the core of the earth and detonate a nuclear device in order to start the liquid outer core rotating. Today we start with tectonics and the internal structure/composition of the earth. We'll take some notes down in the week 3 package on core, mantle, and crust
C - Law 12 - Yesterday we ended the class clearing up the Ford v. Attorney General of Quebec (1988) case. Today, we'll identify what our fundamental freedoms are (section 2 a-d of the Charter) and today we'll build on that. I will have you go over the B. (R.) v. Children's Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto (1995) case and you'll need to complete questions 1-5 on the case. Next, I will need you to review the Keegstra case (R. v. Keegstra, 1990) where you'll be a newspaper reporter writing a respective story on the case after the Supreme Court of Canada made its final decision on the matter. You need about four paragraphs dealing with: a brief history - summary of the case (why he was charged and what the decisions in the lower courts were); an explanation of the charter rights violations and Keegstra's defence; an explnation of the decision made by the justices of the Supreme Court; and opinion from both sides (those for and against Keegstra's defence). Use the questions 1-6 on page 39 in the Law text as a guide (this will be considered as your first major project in the class).
A - Introduction to Law 9/10 - After your quiz, we are going to spend time discussing the differences between mass and serial murder. We will look at profiling and begin to understand what a psychopath is. Dr. Robert Hare of the University of British Columbia created a checklist called the PCL-R (Psychopathy Checklist Revised). We will look at a video on how profiling was developed in the F.B.I. Behavioural Science Unit through the efforts of many highlighted by the work of John Douglas. In Canada the R.C.M.P. call the technique criminal investigative analysis.
