C/D Blocks Social and Environmental Sciences - So, we lose you during C Block for your last Careers pullout from out class. In D Block you come to 115 with Young. Today we'll assemble a large scale map of the oceans. It will (hopefully) look like this
This large scale map will help us with understanding surface ocean movement (gyres and currents) along with Net Primary Productivity (for Benton). When you piece together and explore the Ocean Tiled Map, you will see the flow and temperature of surface ocean currents. The red and blue swirls simplify the patterns of ocean currents, allowing for a glimpse into this profoundly complex global system. Ocean currents are important because they help control the climate and carry food to sea life that only lives in one place. Ocean currents are created by wind, water temperature, and salt content. Even the gravity of the moon plays a role in the creation of ocean currents. When we're finished assembling the map we'll try to understand the connection between wind and water
You will also see that green saturates the map, revealing something that isn’t visible to the human eye but is essential to a living and thriving marine ecosystem. The fundamental building blocks of life in the ocean are phytoplankton - tiny creatures that absorb carbon dioxide and sunlight to produce energy. Phytoplankton accounts for primary ocean productivity and are the best representation of life in the ocean. This ocean map shows where they live and grow, revealing biodiversity hot spots.
A Block Legal Studies - We are back in the Learning Commons / Library to work on our criminal law memo activity. It is due next Monday, right? You should be on your second case now. Please look at the blog posts for weblinks and assistance on the memo format along with resources for your discussion section.
I will be here tomorrow during Flex to assist anyone who would like one-on-one help with your memo project. This is an excellent opportunity for you, so please come in and get some help if you would like it.
Today's Fit...
