A Block Legal Studies -Today we'll watch an episode of Law and Order "Illegitimate" (Episode 12 from Season 19) where an NYPD officer kills a troubled fellow officer who took hostages at gunpoint. After a discussion about police powers, searches, and some legal/procedural things you'll have time to finish up work from the week including yesterday's questions: 2, 3 & 4 from page 154 of the AAL text.
2. Why is it important to co-operate with the police? Under what circumstances might this not be advisable?
3. For each of the duties of a police officer, state the corresponding right
of a citizen:
a) questioning prior to arrest
b) searching a person before arrest
c) questioning the accused after arrest
d) searching a person after arrest
4. What powers do the police have concerning the following: fingerprinting, requesting a lineup, administering a polygraph test, or collecting a blood sample?

C/D Blocks Social and Environmental Sciences - All Benton this afternoon where we will start with height estimation and DBH for trees on the Vanier property. After, with the Lush Valley Food Action Society, we will be building a Hugelkultur bed at the Tsolum garden across the road from Vanier. Hügelkultur, is a permaculture method of making garden beds by layering logs, branches, leaves, and other organic plant debris with compost and soil. In German, Hügelkultur, literally means “hill culture”. It has been practiced by natural farmers and gardeners around the world for centuries. Be prepared for cool temperatures and sunshine this afternoon and it should take us about and hour and a half to complete the task. We'll talk about the benefits of Hügelkultur afterword
