Today's schedule is BADC
B Block Human Geography - To start today, we'll look at food prices and the growing crisis of farmer suicide rates. Food prices, rather than food supply, has emerged as the greatest challenge to world food supply in the twenty-first century. For instance, food prices have more than doubled between 2006 and 2008, remained at record high levels through 2014, and declined sharply in 2015.
We'll also look at the suicide crisis among farmers
Then we'll watch the movie FOOD, INC.
A Block Physical Geography - Today we continue our look at the ethics associated with resource use focusing on the four ethical views on resource use (economic/exploitation; preservationist; balanced-multiple use; and ecological or sustainable). We'll watch some of the Human Footprint DVD and also take a look at:
We'll talk about over-consumption and unsustainable resource use practices
C/D Blocks Environmental & Social Sciences - Today is another day for your Inquiry project. Benton and I will have the mobicart for you in Benton's room (145). Think about what you're presenting and craft how you wish to tell your inquiry story. Remember you are trying to demonstrate the attitudes, skills, knowledge, and tools of a environmental scientist/geographer that you've developed over the semester in Environmental and Social Sciences. We'd like you to show your ability to investigate and understand the world through the patterns, processes, and interactions between human and natural systems. We'll be looking to see that you can ask scientific and geographic questions, collect geospatial data, and then visualize that data in order to create a compelling story that drives an action. Consider the questions below in preparation to present your Inquiry Story to the audience you have selected.
- Who is the audience for your Inquiry Story?
- What method will you use to share your Inquiry Story with them?
- How will you grab their attention?
- What is your pitch? This should be a brief description of what you did, why it is important, and how they can help.
- How will you use your Inquiry Story?
- What are your arguments to influence your audience?
- What is your call to action?
- What do you want your audience to do when they leave?
