You made it! Happy last day before Christmas Break. Today's schedule is
D-Assembly-C-B-Locker Cleanout-A

D & C Blocks Environmental and Social Sciences - Benton and I will ask you to start in 115 with us. We will check in with you about your inquiry project. Next we're off to the learning commons/library to conduct as much research about the broad topic you want to conduct inquiry into. Benton and I will have interviews with you (a check in) to show us the research question you've created, connected to the broad area of inquiry that you are going to narrow your topic into. We will need you to develop a plan (road map) for your inquiry. What do you need to do? How do you plan to go about doing it? When do you plan on getting it done?  Don't forget this is an active research project and we expect you'll need to go out into the community to interview people and work with environmental groups/organizations, so who do you need to talk to and when will you talk with them?

B Block Human Geography - Today is Eat Food Day! I picked up some Ahi (yellowfin) tuna loins last night and made some Hawaiian poke for you (Poke is a two-syllable word like “Poh-keh” and simply means “cut into chunks” in Hawaiian). The Shoyu (soy sauce) is Gluten Free and I keep my Poke pretty simple, so no limu (seaweed) nor macadamia nuts...just shoyu, sesame oil, sambal olek (chili garlic paste), shallots (no maui onions here) and green onions. Some places do poke bowls with rice and avocado but once again...mine is real simple and so ono! We'll assemble our foods that you made and brought with you and dig in. While you're chowing down you chat away and enjoy - or you could hand in some work. So what you like grind? My poke so ono you brok da mout.

A Block Physical Geography - Today we'll go to the library to play the Stop Disasters game. The scenario I would like you to work on is the Caribbean Island Hurricane simulation (medium difficulty). There is a population of 234 people in your coastal town who rely on fishing and tourism for a living. You will need to develop some housing/accommodation for 400 people in the town. You will also need to build a hospital, two schools, and anchor all the boats in the port. You have a budget of $40,000 to work with and don't forget to develop some defenses to protect people, buildings, and livelihoods. When you click on an object square you will likely get three choices: info, develop, & defenses. Read through your options and try to uncover all 15 key facts (which will give you extra points). Play the game twice and fill in the data (on the Week 16 work package) about things you learned and what your scores were. Have fun playing and learn something.
