A Block Physical Geography - Every day we are going to start by looking at the synoptic forecast along with weather maps.
Data Streme
Envrionment Canada: Weather Office Comox
Today we'll begin looking at Albedo, energy distribution, and the greenhouse effect.
NASA has a good website (Earth Observatory Global Warming) that tries to explain the concept of climate change and global warming without a biased political viewpoint for or against the subject. Check it out. You could also look at the Hyper Physics website from the department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University. We'll take a look at two sections of the National Geographic video "Six Degrees Could Change the World" (1 to 3 degree temperature changes). We will pay more attention to global warming and climate change later on in the course.
B Block Human Geography - Today we'll examine the key question "Why Do Ethnicities Engage in Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide"? Our focus for today will be the former Yugoslavia (1991-1999) and ethnic cleansing (we'll take a deeper look at Srebrenica in the Bosnian War). Ethnic cleansing is undertaken to rid an area of an entire ethnicity so that the surviving ethnic group can be the sole inhabitants. The point of ethnic cleansing is not simply to defeat an enemy or to subjugate them but it involves the removal of every member of the less powerful ethnicity - women as well as men, children as well as adults, the frail elderly as well as the strong youth. There's a good timeline and in depth page of the Balkan Wars (including Srebrenica in the Balkan War and also Podujevo in the Kosovo war) on the CBC here. You'll need to work on the following for me:
- Define ethnic cleansing
- How is ethnic cleansing different than normal warfare?
- Regarding the Yugoslav refrain that was common during the rule of Josip Tito, identify Yugoslavia’s: Five Nationalities; Four Languages; Three Religions; and Two Alphabets
- Why did Serbs and Croats in Bosnia (aka Bosnia-Herzegovina) ethnically cleanse themselves of Bosnia Muslims?
- After the 1996 Dayton Accords (end of Yugoslav civil war) What country controlled Kosovo
- What ethnic group lives in Kosovo (and %)?
- With the breakup of Yugoslavia, what began to happen in Kosovo?
- How did the U.S. and U.N. respond?
- Define balkanized
- Define balkanization

C Block Criminology - Some of us will have started out watching crime through the relatively innocent eyes of Scooby Doo. So today I'd like you to watch the “What’s New Scooby Doo” episode called “Homeward Hound”? (It ran on the WB from 2002-2006).
How is this version of Scooby Doo different than the newer one Scooby Doo, Mystery Incorporated!
Or the older one (Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo)?
Or from the original one Scooby Doo Where Are You?
Lastly I'll have you watch this and then answer the questions below (about Scooby Doo in general including Scooby Doo Where are You?, The Scooby Doo Show, Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo, What's New Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated, and Be Cool Scooby Doo):
- What assumptions or beliefs do Scooby Doo’s creators have that are reflected in the content?
- How does this make you feel, based on how similar or different you are from the people portrayed in the media product?
- How does the commercial purpose (it's made for a profit right?) of Scooby Doo cartoons influence the content and how it's communicated?
- Who and what is shown in a positive light? In a negative light? Why might these people and things be shown this way?
- Who and what is not shown at all? What conclusions might audiences draw based on these facts?
- "How does Scooby Doo explain crime and gender roles to young people"?

D Block Law - Today we'll look at the advantages of trial by jury and understand the methods and challenges to jury selection. After we'll focus on the presentation of evidence (Crown first then Defence), the rules of evidence (including voire dire), and types of evidence (circumstantial, hearsay, privileged, and character). I'll have you explain the roles and responsibilities of the judge, the crown prosecutor, defense counsel, the court clerk, court recorder, and sheriff and then work on questions 1, 2 and 4 from page 200 as well as questions 1, 2 and 3 from page 207 of the All About Law text. 1 one of the assumptions that i realize was that dafne didn't want to go to the haunting house, instead, she rather going to the dogs talent show that may seem more girly, and fred looks more disappointed.
Fred seems tough, and strong, he fought with the cat monster
He always takes the control of it
For example, I don't find any similarities with the girls, first of all their skin tone is different than mine, both of their hair is straight, velma has brown hair as me, but well, hers is short, and she wears glasses as well but i wear my contacts so…
Dafne looks tall, skinny but 90 40 90 measurements, with green eyes, and she seems obsessed with fred, she is always too fashionable both of them use skirts, well dress and a skirt, Velma is the smartest, she always knows what to say.
How does that make me feel? Well i've always liked to learn new things, and try to give my best about general knowledge and culture, but i don't know as much as Velma does,
Each version is different in the way that in the first one they didn’t introduced the characters, abd in the second one they had couples, dafne and fred where engaged and Velma and Shaggy where together but he chose scooby over her
The other version there's scrappy the little niece of scooby and he isnt like scooby, he is more brave, and he wants to fight the monster, the episodes are shorter and the gang doesn’t participate a lot now
I think that they put in a situation of dafne that she seems to superficial, she’s obsessed with fred, she is super fashionable, and well, she has a lot of stereotypes, and they put fred like more in the light, because he seems strong, and always is a leader, he seems masculine, muscular, fancy, he dresses up good, he obviously is blond, and he seems the leader.
They explain the gender roles like the guys need to take charge of it, or if not just eat, meanwhile if the girls bring up the ideas, if they are not pretty or giving new theories they are basically useless, and more when you drop of your glasses you can't really do much
