A Block Law 12 - Today we are going back to the library to work through the case study project. Please take some time to review invitees, licencees, and tresspassers for occupiers' liability (which is relevant for cases 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8). You can talk to each other as long as it’s about your project. You should be searching for information related to your cases and can use this class blogsite entry for information on negligence, the defences to negligence and civil damages (good samaritan this past Wednesday, occupiers liability yesterday, the Liquor control and Licensing Act last Monday, and damages last Friday).

D Block Social Studies 11 - Today we'll start with Medicare, social welfare programs, changes to immigration in Canada, the points system and multiculturalism. Today and Monday we will work on the history of Quebec “nationalism” and the roots of the separatist movement (Chapter 8 pages 190-204 in the Counterpoints textbook). We'll go through pages 198 – 204 as a class and then we will watch Canada: A People’s History episode “Years of Hope and Anger” chapter 12 "October 1970". This deals with the Front de Libération de Québec (Quebec Liberation Front) whose actions culminated with the kidnapping of James Cross (who was released) and Pierre Laporte (who died while in FLQ custody) in the province of Quebec. The Canadian Prime Minister (Pierre-Eliott Trudeau) responded by imposing the War Measures Act in Quebec (suspending civil liberties).

C Block Crime, Media & Society 12 - Today we'll watch the Law & Order Special Victims Unit episode "Selfish". From the Law & Order Wiki:

When it is reported by Ruth Walker that her two-year-old granddaughter, Sierra Walker, is missing Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler investigate. After rounds of interrogation and a failed Amber Alert, Benson and Stabler believe that the prime suspect is none other than Sierra's young and irresponsible mother, Ashlee Walker

Yes, we've done Casey Anthony all week and this episode is clearly based on the Casey Anthony case. From the Business Insider

"Selfish" mirrored the blockbuster Casey Anthony trial

During the tenth season of Law & Order: SVU, the show's nineteenth episode featured a young mother accused of killing her child so that she can party more. In the real-life version of the crime, Anthony was accused in 2008 of murdering her daughter Caylee. Police initially became suspicious of Anthony after she waited a month to report Caylee's disappearance. The television episode mirrored the real-life saga in more ways than one. In both cases, a grandma reported the young girl's disappearance and complained the mother's car smelled like a dead body. And both the TV mother and Anthony left their daughters with secondary caregivers and then blamed the babysitter for the disappearance
