Today's schedule is B-A-D-C

B Block Law 12 - I have the library booked for you to continue your work on the major civil law project for Law. I want to remind you we've gone over damages, compensation, negligence and defenses to negligence. You have notes...you have links on this class blogsite (good samaritan yesterday, occupiers liability on Monday, the Liquor control and Licensing Act last Thursday) and you need to work hard as there are only 23 classes remaining in the course (21 until your exam days). Next week we'll look at Intentional Torts and defenses to them which will help with a few of your cases.

A Block Social Studies 11 - Today we'll examine the rise of the Parti-Quebecois who came to power in 1976 and in 1980 held a referendum in the province of Quebec to determine if there was a desire to pull the province out of confederation (really it was a convoluted form of independence where the province would still maintain Canadian currency but be able to make its own laws). To help understand this we'll watch Canada: A People’s History “In an Uncertain World” chapter 3 “The Choice”. In the end the province voted 59% "non" and 40% "oui". I'll get you to work on questions 1, 3, and 4 from page 200 of the Counterpoints textbook today.

D Block Criminology 12 - Today we will spend a few minutes reviewing our discussion of serial and mass murder from yesterday and then we'll go back try to our discussion of psychopathology. To better understand the people that commit heinous acts of murder, we'll take the class to understand what a "psychopath" is. Too often people throw the term psycho around without really understanding what it means so we'll look at Dr. Robert Hare's PCL-R (Psychopathy Checklist Revised). The diagnosis "Psychopath" is closely related to Antisocial Personality Disorder in the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th Edition). I'll give you time to work on the motivations of mass and serial murder question from yesterday. After we'll finish our look at mass murder by focusing on Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold who killed 13 students at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado (for more see school shooters) and the leader of the "People's Temple"- the Reverend James Warren "Jim" Jones and the mass suicide of over 900 people in Jonestown Guyana.

C Block Geography 12 - Today we’ll take a brief look at climatology and climate types on the planet, making sense of the Koppen climate classification system. After this, we are off to the library to begin two days of class time working on our severe weather poster assignment. The assignment follows:

It has been a few months now since your geographic consulting company created a successful report for the town of Orting Washington on the dangers of Mt. Rainier and building a new school to accommodate growth. After some well deserved time off, you then completed a pamphlet for Parks Canada on the dangers of Mass Wasting in the Canadian Rockies which is still being distributed to back country enthusiasts. With the profits that your company made from the Parks Canada contract, you decided to take some time off and headed to the American Midwest for a 10 day Tornado Alley tour with Violent Skies Tours. True to form you made some contacts with people through the owners of the company and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has hired your company to create a poster on severe weather for children. NOAA has indicated that the topics that you can research are: Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Thunder Storms, Lightning, Hail, Blizzards, Ice Storms, Drought, or Fire Storms. You will need to research the following about your topic:

1. What causes the Severe Weather Event to occur?
2. What kinds of damage does the Severe Weather Event inflict?
3. How is the Severe Weather Event detected and monitored?
4. Where does your chosen Severe Weather Event occur most often in North America?
5. What safety precautions should one take in order to survive your chosen Severe Weather Event?
6. Give examples of the most extreme occurrences of your chosen Severe Weather Event that has happened in Canada, the United States and the world.
7. A List of the websites that you used to assist in the compilation of this assignment.
