Today's schedule is C-D-A-B

C Block Law 9/10 - Today we will venture off to the library to begin work on a small project about nasty people. It will be your job to create a poster on a serial killer.

INTRODUCTION TO LAW 9/10 SERIAL KILLER POSTER ASSIGNMENT
Select a criminal from the list below and discuss your selection with me to obtain approval to proceed with your research no later than Today. No more than two students may choose the same criminal and your selection of a criminal is on a first-come, first-served basis. Prepare a poster on your criminal that must include the following information:

1. Name of the criminal (including an image of them) along with any aliases they may have.
Summary (not details) of the crime(s) the criminal committed, with corresponding dates (year only) of the crimes.
2. Explain the type of victim that the criminal sought
3. Explain how the criminal was caught (by whom & how? What led to his/her capture?)
4. Indicate the criminal's background, childhood, method of committing the crime, and characteristics which cause the criminal to fit within the particular theory you selected.
5. State, define, and explain the criminological theory, (classical, biological, psychological, sociological, or integrated) which explains the criminal's behaviour
6. State which serial killer category the criminal is: mission-oriented, hedonistic, visionary, power/control, thrill killer, expedience killer; (and define whichever category you select)

D Block Social Studies 11 - Today we will take the block to discuss the changes in the social fabric of Canadian society as a result of the Great Depression in the 1930's. To start the class you and a partner will work together on the Using Statistics in History questions 1 a, b, 3, and 4 from page 81 in the Counterpoints text. By doing this we will be able to see the impacts of the Great Depression on the Prairies in 1932 and 1933. We'll discuss your work and then we'll watch the Canada: A People's History episode Descent Into Chaos. After we'll focus on the political parties that emerged in reaction to the harsh economic and political climate of the time. We will look at the Union Nationale (Maurice Duplessis), the Social Credit Party (William "Bible Bill" Aberhart) and the Co-Operative Commonwealth Federation (J.S. Woodsworth). We'll even talk about the Canadian Nationalist Party (Joseph Farr) and the National Social Christian Party (Adrien Arcand) which were both unabashedly fascist (Arcand eventually became the leader of the National Unity Party. We will take some time to watch Canada: A People's History (The Enemies Within, Dear Mr. Prime Minister, A Clean Sweep, and The Politics of Hope). Lastly you'll need to work on questions 1 & 2 on page 89. Tomorrow we'll look at equalization payments, the Rowell-Sirois commission and begin our look at the rise of dictators in the 20's & 30's.

B Block Geography 12 - Today you will be finishing the “Sunlight and the Seasons” (week 11 package "Solar energy and the reason for seasons"). After you have finished this activity you need to complete questions 17, 19, and 20 from page 62 in your Geosystems textbook. After we'll begin looking at Albedo, energy distribution, the greenhouse effect and temperature (if there's time we'll watch the BBC DVD “The Weather” episode on heat (Grrrr, Donal MacIntyre is doing my job!).
NASA has a good website (Earth Observatroy Global Warming) that tries to explain the concept of climate change and global warming without a biased political viewpoint for or against the subject. Check it out. You could also look at the Hyper Physics website from the department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University.
