Ethan asked me about the mass die-off of animals in the news. In recent days, wildlife have mysteriously died in big numbers: 2 million fish in the Chesapeake Bay, 150 tons of red tilapia in Vietnam, 40,000 crabs in Britain and other places across the world. I've found a bunch of articles to help you if you're interested to find out more on this topic.
MSNBC has an article that cites E.O. Wilson who claims technology is the culprit for the hysteria surrounding the animal events. He indicates that these events are all too common and natural - it's just that with the advent of global communications and Web 2.0 functions people can report these events with more frequency. The more reporting of these events the more panic that people feel about what is in essence a natural event. Discovery Channel has a good article on birds and die-offs, AOL has an article, and National Geographic also has a very good article as well.
