Day 81 - Thursday January 20. 2011

A - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today we have our final quiz in the course. It covers the last part of forensics and pre-trial issues in BC courts (arrests, warrants, bail, and pre-trial release procedures). When we finish the quiz, we'll continue with your "Question Box" questions and if there is time we'll see what the BC court structure looks like. There is a locker clean out after first block so class will be shortened by five minutes to accomodate this. Tomorrow your web page address is due to me and I'll start marking this activity on the weekend. Good luck.

C - Law 12 - Today is day one of your in-class final exam. You will be working on the multiple choice section today and tomorrow you'll have the written answer section. If you studied and are prepared than I am certain you will do well. Good Luck. Six people have handed in their major project to me already. Thank you. This assignment is due tomorrow so please ensure that I have it by the end of the day. Many thanks.

D - Geography 12 - To start the class, we will discuss Jared Diamond's book Collapse, trying to make sense of how civilizations in the past collapsed (Maya & Rapa Nui) and extrapolating his findings to our modern society today. We'll look at the twelve major modern environmental problems that Diamond identifies and examine his conclusions about our potential future. Remember to ask me about bunnies and Australia, specifically the 24 bunnies that the British brought with them in 1859 and how much the Australian government spends annually to control them. See Diamond talk at TED here.

After our discussion we will continue with the movie Home. Think about the title. What is our collective home? Now think about the statement from the beginning of the film yesterday...

Listen to me, please. You're like me, a homo sapiens. A wise human. Life; a miracle in the universe appeared around 4 billion years ago and we humans only 200,000 years ago, yet we have succeeded in disrupting the balance so essential to life. Listen carefully to this extraordinary story, which is yours, and decide what you want to do with it.
