B - Social Studies 10 - Today we're off to the library to begin work on a Rebellions Editorial activity. After we've taken attendance and logged on to the computers in the library read through the following description of your activity:
You are a newspaper editor for either the Toronto Telegraph or the Montreal Gazette. It is 1840; Mackenzie has been pardoned and is living in Toronto again while Papineau is exiled and living in France. You are going to write an editorial (opinion piece) on the rebellions of both Upper and Lower Canada. Using question 19 from page 33 of Challenge of the West as a guideline / framework for your thoughts and opinions, write a one paged editorial arguing that the rebels were either justified in their actions or were traitors to the King and England. Remember it is 1840, one year before the Act of Union, but Durham's recommendations would be public knowledge in the colonies by now (responsible government, union of the Canadas, more equality of the churches, and more local control in governance). Add in any ideas from yesterday's work (q 14 p. 32) and read question 18 from page 33 to help get more ideas if necessary.
You'll have today and tomorrow in the library to work on this activity. This is a project mark so it would be wise not to waste your time or blow this assignment off (especially considering the end of the term looms nigh!) Look here for more:

A - Earth & Space Science 11 - Today we start our Tectonics unit by watching the DVD “Amazing Planet: Born of Fire”. I know you watched some of the DVD already, but it was a long time ago (February 5th) and I want you to watch all of it today. While you are watching the DVD, you may work on the Plate Tectonics Worksheet 1 that I'll hand out to you.
C - Criminology 12 - Today we'll finish the Criminal Minds episode “The Aftermath” that we started on Friday. The BAU (Behavioural Analysis Unit) investigates a serial rapist who had been attacking young women at religious schools and stopped for six weeks. He has resumed his attacks, but is now targeting a different demographic of women.Once we're finished the episode I'll give you two articles (from canoe.ca) that we'll read over together, “The Teacher and the Schoolboy” and “The Sexualization of Young Girls”. After I'd like to have a class discussion on what causes people to rape others. Think about the following questions:
- Is there anything society can do to prevent rapes before they occur? What course of action would you recommend?
- Should different types of rape receive different legal sanctions? For example, should someone who rapes a stranger be punished more severely than someone who is convicted of marital rape or date rape? What about a teacher and a student?
- What practices are there in Canada that helps reinforce the notion that is acceptable for men to be sexually aggressive towards women?
