Today's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D

A - Social Studies 11 - Today with Mr. Lux you will begin the class with current events. Remember that you will be responsible for bringing a news item to class and each day we'll have five students share. After you'll be heading off to the library for research on the project that you received last Friday. Don't forget that you will need to research information on specific campaigns/battles/events identified on the worksheet. Here are some web sites that can help:
World War 2 on line
UK History Learning Site WW2
Canada at War (Click on the Canadian Battles tab in the left hand frame)
History Central WW2
Canadian War Museum
Discovery Channel UK WW2

B- Social Studies 10 - To start the class with Mr. Lux today we'll begin with current events. Remember that you will be responsible for bringing a news item to class and each day we'll have five students share. Next you'll begin an activity on the 1885 Northwest Rebellion. Remember you need to create a map/poster of the Northwest Rebellion as if it came from the time. Posters & Maps in the 1800's were considered as pieces of art and were very valuable so time should be taken to craft an image that someone would want.

The poster/map will attempt to recreate ONE of the following scenes:

1. the skirmish at Duck Lake
2. the attack at Frog Lake
3. the Battle of Fish Creek & Batoche
4. the Battle of Cut Knife Hill

The poster/map must include a write up of no more than 200 words explaining the scene being portrayed. You can use pages 132-139 of the text for help.

Canadian Geographic Historical Maps of Canada
Historical Atlas of Canada
Carleton University on line map database

C - Criminology 12 - Today we will be in the library working on our second journal / blog entry. Over the weekend I asked you to watch some more news broadcasts and see how many and what kind of crime stories they show. I asked you to do this because there is a direct link between perception of crime and what the news media portrays of crime. So today I would like you to tell me what you think about crime trends here in Canada / B.C. I want you to tell me if you think crime is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. I would like you to be specific in your thoughts (ex: if you think crime is increasing what kind of crime? what age group? where? why?) Next find a news story that helps to explain your ideas about crime trends, make a link to the news article on your blogsite and then tell me all about how that story exemplifies your thoughts on crime trends. DON'T FORGET you have a quiz tomorrow on all of the work on theories (chapter 1 of the Criminology: The Core textbook).
