Today's schedule is CDABL

C/D Blocks Environmental and Social Sciences - Benton and I will ask you to start in 145 with us. We will check in with you about your inquiry project. Next we're off to the learning commons/library to conduct as much research about the broad topic you want to conduct inquiry into. Benton and I will have interviews with you (a check in) to show us the research question you've created, connected to the broad area of inquiry that you are going to narrow your topic into. We will need you to develop a plan (road map) for your inquiry. What do you need to do? How do you plan to go about doing it? When do you plan on getting it done?  Don't forget this is an active research project and we expect you'll need to go out into the community to interview people and work with environmental groups/organizations, so who do you need to talk to and when will you talk with them?

A Block Physical Geography - Today we'll start looking at storms and "CYCLOGENESIS"...sweet! We will look at mid-latitude cyclones and the source regions of air masses that cause these storms to develop. We'll analyze the difference between the three dimensional structure of a warm front and a cold front and your work to accomplish for the day is questions 1, 2, and 5 from page 147 and question 10 from page 248 in your Geosystems textbook. The following sites will help with cyclogenesis:

Michael Ritter's The Physical Environment: An Introduction to Physical Geography on line text
National Weather Service Jet Stream on line weather school
University of Illinois WW2010 Weather Wold Project

Rapid Cyclogenesis Web lesson
Environment Canada Understanding Cyclogenesis

B Block Human Geography - Today we will be another day to work on your Inquiry Project. Remember...Inquiry is the process of being puzzled about something, generating your own questions about the subject, using information to satisfy your own interests and to develop your knowledge. What does it include? Planning, Research, Focus, Creating, Sharing, Evaluating and Reflecting. Within the context of Geography you've already started your inquiry process by asking/considering:

What is my broad area of inquiry?
From Mrs. Vangelista @ Burnaby Mountain Secondary
How can I narrow down my focus...
Some possible inquiry questions are...

So today is a check in day. I'll need you to show me the research question you've created, connected to the broad area of inquiry that you are going to narrow your topic into. I will need you to develop a plan (road map) for your inquiry. What do you need to do? How do you plan to go about doing it? When do you plan on getting it done.  Don't forget this is an active research project and I expect you'll need to go out into the community to interview people so who do you need to talk to and when will you talk with them?

Personal Learning Block - I'll be in 115 to help Geography students get caught up. I expect that if you are not currently passing either Human or Physical Geography that you'll be there. Really, like in the actual classroom to get some help...you know so that you can be passing?! See you there
