Today's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D

A - Earth & Space Science 11 - Today we'll start the class with some time to finish up the work from the week (q 10-15 page 93, Geologic Time Worksheet 2, and Geological Time Scale Exercise). For the last half hour I'll give you some notes on Relative and Absolute Dating which will help with next week's Relative Dating Exercise and your unit test. Included in these notes will be some important concepts: law of superposition; law of original horizontality; principle of cross-cutting relationships; angular unconformities, disconformities, nonconformities, radiometric dating, isotopes, and decay; parent and daughter products; half-lives; Eons, Eras; Periods; and Epochs.

Drapeau Quebec Patriotes 1837-38

B - Social Studies 10 - Today we are going to wrap up our work on the 1837-8 Rebellions in Canada by focusing on Lower Canada (Quebec). We'll watch the Canada: A People's History video "The Last Stand" which deals with Ste. Eustache and the harsh treatment of the Patriotes by the British forces in Quebec (led by John Colborne, Baron Seaton, Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in North America, and acting Governor General of British North America). I'll give you some notes on Louis Joseph Papineau and the results of the Rebellion. At the end of the class I'll have you look at Lord Durham and answer question 7 from page 31 in the Challenge of the West text.

C - Criminology 12 - Today we will continue our look at sexual assault. I would like to focus on Groth's typology of rapist and then examine the causes for sexual assault. We'll look at evolutionary and biological factors (remember Sigmund Freud's Thantos and Eros or instinctual drives that allowed species to be successful?) We'll look at modern male socialization (boys are taught to be aggressive, forceful, tough, and dominating...think about how boys play when they're young). We'll look at hypermasculinity (where some men have callous sexual attitudes and believe that violence is "manly"). We'll look at violent experiences (remember that those boys who were exposed to violence in the household are more likely to commit violent acts when they grow older) and we'll look at Sexual motivation (social, cultural, and psychological forces...think about the messages hidden in Axe body spray commercials). We'll watch a Criminal Minds episode today "The Aftermath".

Pau Hana!
