Today's schedule is C-D-A-B

C Block Criminology 12 - Today we start our week long look at the Casey Anthony trial and media coverage in the United States. In June 2008 Casey's daughter Caylee went missing and was found dead later that December. Due to inconsistencies in her story, her delay in reporting her child missing, and increased public pressure and scrutiny, Casey was charged with Caylee's murder. A ferocious media storm ensued and Casey Anthony's trial was conducted both in a Florida courtroom and the national media in June 2011.

So this week we'll try to make sense of the crime (Casey and Caylee Anthony), the media's coverage of the crime (particularly Nancy Grace), feminist perspectives on criminology, the bad mother motif, Schadenfreude, and the way fictional crime media represented the story (Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit). Today, I'll give you a handout on the case and we'll go over it together. After that, I'll show you the 48 Hours Mystery episode above "The Untold Story of Caylee Anthony" and we'll talk about it at the end of the video. If Casey Anthony was the most hated mom in America the most hated husband in America was Scott Peterson (who was convicted of murdering his wife and unborn child in 2004)

D Block Human Geography 11 - Today we'll look at the Key Issue "Where Are Consumer Services Distributed"? Generally speaking, we spend as little time and effort as possible obtaining consumer services and therefore go to the nearest place that fulfills our needs. We travel greater distances only if the price is much lower or if the item is unavailable locally. To that end we'll look at Central Place Theory, market areas, market area analysis, range of service, threshold of service and the gravity model (of services). We'll also look at the rank-size rule and the primate city rule (in terms of services). Lastly you'll have a few questions to work on for me.

A Block Law 12 - Today we're back in the class to continue our look at family law as a subject. Our focus for the day will be on support obligations. We'll look at: spousal support and self sufficiency; and the types of child guardianship, access, and child support and we'll look at the Federal Child Support Guidelines (schedules/tables) and BC's Family Maintenance Enforcement Act.

B Block Introduction to Law 10 - Today we'll look through the physical and mental elements of a crime. We'll focus on the three types of criminal intent and understand the difference between Strict Liability and Indictable Offenses in Canada (remember that in Canada we do not have felony and misdemeanor offences). I'll have you work on questions 1-7 on page 74 of the All About Law textbook.
