Today's schedule is A-AG-B-C-D

B Block Social Studies 11 - Today we'll continue with Friday's look at economic cycles and the Stock Market Crash of 1929. We'll try to understand stocks and shares, supply and demand, and the costs of using credit. We'll also look at protectionism and see how it impacts international markets. We'll watch a few Brain Pop videos and take a few notes today. You have only question 1 a & b from page 79 in Counterpoints to work on.

C Block Social Studies 10 - We'll finish our look at Manitoba's entry as a province (not a territory) into Confederation. We'll see the influence of the Metis Bill of Rights on the terms of entry (Manitoba Act, 1870) and the reaction to Riel's handling of Thomas Scott. I have five questions you need to answer:

  1. Who were the National Committee of the Metis and what were their goals?
  2. Who was William McDougall and what conflict did he get involved in at the Red River?
  3. What is a "provisional government" and why did Riel establish one?
  4. What was the Metis Bill of Rights (list out the 5 points the text addresses). Was this Bill reasonable? Why or why not?
  5. What was the Thomas Scott affair? How did it affect both the Metis and the the settlers in the Red River? How did the Canadian government respond?

D Block Criminology 12 - Today we will be in the library working on our first journal / blog entry. Today you will need to set up a blog for the course. You may use Google's Blogspot, Wordpress, Live Journal, Bloguni, or any other blog creation site you choose. I would HIGHLY recommend staying with blogspot, wordpress, or live journal.

I would like you to tell me what you think about crime trends here in Canada / B.C. I want you to tell me if you think crime is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. I would like you to be specific in your thoughts (ex: if you think crime is increasing what kind of crime? what age group? where? why?) Next find a news story that helps to explain your ideas about crime trends, make a link to the news article on your blogsite and then tell me all about how that story exemplifies your thoughts on crime trends. An excellent crime news website is the CANOE CNews Crime site...at the bottom of the Crime Headlines section there is an excellent archive of three months of crime stories for you to use.
