Monday, November 24, 2008

Today's schedule is D-C-Lunch-A-B.

D - Geography 12 - Today we'll take a look at temperature on the planet. We will make sense of the variations of heat and try to understand why that occurs. You will take a look at altitude, cloud cover, and the differential between ocean & land heating. At the end of the class we'll watch the BBC video on "Cold" (the companion to the heat video you watched on Friday) and you will need to complete questions 5, 8, 12, and 13 from page 141 and question 16 from page 142 in your Geosystems text.

C - Introduction to Law 9/10 - Today you'll write quiz two of the course on the work from last week. After we are off to the library to have our last day to work on the serial killer profiling assignment. This assignment is due a week from today (Monday, December 1st, 2008) and you will not be able to choose the topic for your forensic science web page assignment until I have received your poster first. The web page assignment can be found on page 12 of your book (handout) and I'd suggest that you look over the options as soon as possible to find our what interests you.

A - Law 12 - Today we will review the plea bargaining assignment from last Thursday and Friday. The Karla Homolka case garnered a huge amount of attention due to the controversial nature of her plea bargain agreement with the Crown Counsel in Ontario. On the Law & Order episode the plea was denied by the judge during the elocution and this is mostly mere "Hollywood" to give the viewer a sense of satisfaction at the end of the episode. After the review we'll continue our work on courtroom organization (you needed to define the roles of the people on the courtroom diagram I gave you last Wednesday in class) and today I will ask you to look at the process of jury selection. You will have to complete questions 2-6 on page 124 in class and I'll collect them on Wednesday. Your unit final test will be next Monday (December 1st, 2008).

B- Earth and Space Science 11 - Today you need to hand in your questions from last Wednesday (definitions on glaciers & "For Review" question 12 on page 332) and we will turn our focus on deserts. I will give you some notes on how deserts form and we'll take a diagram down on desert formations (butte, mesa, pediment, alluvial fan, & playa). Connected to this we'll look at how wind creates desert landscapes (deflation & abrasion) and creates dunes. Lastly we'll try to understand desertification. You'll need to complete "For Review" questions 1, 2, 7, and 9 on page 350 of your Earth Science and the Environment text. While you do this, if there is time, we'll watch the Planet Earth video on deserts.
