Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Wednesday's schedule is A-B-Lunch-C-D.

A - Law 12
- Today we'll start by looking at the cases we didn't get to yesterday R. v. Silveria (1995) and R. v. Zammit (1993). These are two important cases about obtaining evidence (in this case drug related evidence) which relates to tomorrow's topic of tests for impaired driving. After this we will examine what the Criminal Code says a "vehicle" is and what a public space is in relation to impaired driving, including the very important legal concept of "care or control". You and a partner will look at R. v. Hundal (1993), R. v. Bernshaw (1995), R. v. Colarusso (1994), and R. v. Dersch (1993). Read through the cases and discuss the questions together. You will briefly summarize each the four cases and identify the important points of law that an individual in society (a reasonable person) should learn from them (think the moral of the story). I'll need you to do this as a concept map on a large chart paper, showing connections between the four cases.

B- Earth and Space Science 11 - Today we'll work on plutonic (intrusive igneous) features and volcanic (extrusive igneous) features. I'll have a diagram for you to copy out and then we'll watch Bill Nye The Science Guy. There will be time to finish up yesterday's questions ("For Review" questions 2-8 and "For Discussion" questions 1& 2 from page 194 in your Earth Science and the Environment textbook) and you may want to get organized for your quiz tomorrow, Don't forget that your quiz will be on Chapters 6 and 7 - Tectonics and Earthquakes).

D - Geography 12 - Today we will quickly review the Mass Wasting work we did yesterday. Today we look at three types of snow avalanches (loose, wet, and slab). We'll understand where they occur, why they happen, and figure out the physics of snow mass movement. I'll show you a video on avalanches and then you can build more data for your mass wasting pamphlet project (due next week). There is no homework tonight.
